Veritas NetBackup met the need to backup and restore all critical data, including S4Hana and Microsoft SQL backups. This allowed not only to protect critical data, but also to ensure the uninterrupted operation of all subsystems. The new system replaced several previous solutions that did not meet the reliability and availability requirements, such as Veritas BackupExec, HPE Data Protector, Azure Backup, and AWS Backup.
Duration and complexity of implementation
The system implementation process took just over 3 months. It involved specialists from DTEK's IT department and the team from Veritas and its partner. The main resources included time for setup, data migration and backup verification, as well as specialists for testing at various stages.
Optimizing backup time
One of the significant advantages of the system was the reduction of backup time to 48 hours, despite the annual increase in data volume by 20%.
System scalability
Given the company's growing needs, it was important to choose a system that could scale. Veritas NetBackup demonstrated scalability across both on-premises and cloud environments, providing confidence in future data growth.
Protecting backup data
The backup data is stored in immutable copies, which makes it impossible to modify or delete it. The system has reduced the time required to create offsite backups, allowing backups to be performed in multiple locations, including different data centers and a tape library.
Data reliability and security
Thanks to encryption, deduplication, and remote data storage across multiple sites, the system ensured complete protection even in the event of a failure at one of the data centers (DC).
Employee feedback
The IT team and other employees highly praised the convenience and reliability of the new solution. They particularly emphasized the simplicity of managing backups and the speed of restoring data after a failure. The transparency of the backup process ensures daily updates on the timeliness and success of the process, thanks to automated reporting.
