LLC Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) is a natural monopoly responsible for transporting natural gas for customers in Ukraine and European countries. The company was established in 2019 as part of Ukraine’s international commitments to the Energy Community regarding the independence of the national gas transmission system operator.
The company’s primary objective is to ensure reliable, safe, and uninterrupted gas transportation while developing a transparent management system integrated into the European energy market.
Imagine a section of a high-pressure gas pipeline somewhere between two villages: no connectivity, no electricity, and the nearest office dozens of kilometres away. These are exactly the kinds of locations where GTSOU field crews maintain the country’s critical infrastructure every day. Yet maintenance and repair processes were still largely paper-based.
For critical infrastructure at the national level, this meant slower response to technical issues, limited quality control, and a lack of up-to-date analytics for management decision-making.
In 2023, EigenMethod, together with MODUS X as a technology partner, began developing the Mobile Plant Maintenance solution for GTSOU on the SAP BTP platform, integrated with SAP S/4HANA.
The team was engaged based on its previous experience: at DTEK Grids, MODUS X had already developed and implemented the Mobile Crews solution for power distribution networks, which is used daily by 1,500 employees across 850 field crews.
In the GTSOU project, MODUS X was responsible for four key areas: requirements definition and architecture consulting, participation in solution design, QA engineering, and strengthening the development team at critical stages.
Indicator | Change |
Journeys between sites and the office | −40% |
Time required for defect registration and data transfer | −40% |
Paper-based document workflow in this area | 100 per cent rejection |
Data loss without a network connection or electricity | zero |
Beyond the quantitative results, the solution gave GTSOU a digital trace of every task, up-to-date infrastructure analytics in SAP, and an additional layer of protection for critical infrastructure through full visibility into the condition of the gas transmission system.
“We took paper out of the field crews’ hands and gave them smartphones connected to our core IT system. Even when there is no connectivity or power, the crews can continue working and the data is not lost. The application has become our new standard for maintenance,” — Vladyslav Medvediev, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Management Board at GTSOU.
“The partnership had two key areas: sharing expertise and strengthening development capacity. This kind of cooperation raises the quality bar for mobile solutions in the Ukrainian SAP market,” — Dmytro Osyka, CEO MODUS X.
Mobile Plant Maintenance transformed gas transmission infrastructure maintenance from a paper-based process into a unified digital system with real-time data access, offline resilience, and full SAP integration.
For GTSOU, it sets a new standard for maintaining critical infrastructure at the national level. For the Ukrainian market, it demonstrates that the local SAP ecosystem is capable of delivering world-class solutions even in wartime.
