Our Head of Business Analysis, Denys Chuev, took part in a panel discussion at the Ukrainian Online Business Analysis Conference, which brought together market experts to discuss current approaches to hiring, professional development, and the labor market.
The discussion also featured Denys Hobov (DataArt), Dmytro Lozovytskyi (EPAM Systems), and Yevhen Kliukin (Geniusee). Together, the speakers shared practical experience from “the other side of the interview table” and discussed which competencies are most critical for candidates today.
One of the key questions was whether candidates should apply for vacancies if their experience does not fully match the requirements.
Denys Chuev emphasized that candidates should still apply even if their experience only partially matches a role, as companies assess applicants holistically:
“Even if your experience does not fully match the requirements, you may have other strengths for which a company would be willing to hire you. At the same time, it is important to honestly ask yourself whether this role truly interests you and whether you are ready to grow and invest time in learning.”
Special attention was also given to how well candidates meet business needs. According to Denys Chuev, the quality of candidates reaching interviews is increasingly aligned with company expectations:
“We are often ready to hire people without extensive experience if we see strong soft skills and growth potential. In some projects, this can be more important than deep technical expertise.”
The discussion also addressed which skills are critical for business analysts. Among the most important are the ability to work with requirements and strong communication skills:
“For a business analyst, it is not enough to simply document what the business says — you need to understand the essence. If something is unclear, you need to clarify it. Otherwise, assumptions emerge that ultimately do not work.”
He also emphasized that a solid technical foundation remains an important component, even if it is not used on a daily basis.
Participation of MODUS X experts in such events strengthens the company’s presence in the professional community, fosters knowledge sharing, and contributes to a more transparent labor market.
