The international outlet Montel News has published an analytical article highlighting the growing physical and cyber threats to Europe’s energy infrastructure amid Russia’s war against Ukraine. The publication features a comment from Dmytro Osyka, CEO of MODUS X, who shared the company’s insights into the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks targeting critical infrastructure.
As Montel notes, against the backdrop of daily drone and missile strikes on Ukraine’s energy facilities, there has been a sharp rise in the number of cyberattacks — “with a particular focus on critical [energy and industrial] infrastructure,” emphasized Dmytro Osyka.
He added that MODUS X has recorded a surge in ransomware and malware incidents, as well as new, more sophisticated threats — including supply chain compromises, intrusions into operational technology networks, and the use of artificial intelligence to enhance social engineering attacks.
According to Montel, MODUS X has already thwarted millions of cyber sabotage attempts targeting the Ukrainian energy company DTEK.
The article underlines that Ukraine’s experience could serve as a crucial lesson for the European Union in building a resilient energy infrastructure — particularly in areas of decentralization, investment in cybersecurity, and the development of cross-border cooperation.
